Andhra Pradesh: Govt to provide free sanitary napkins to school, college-aged girls

The Andhra Pradesh government, led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, has announced that adolescent girls studying in government educational institutions will receive free sanitary napkins. On Tuesday, the Chief Minister will launch the “Swechha” (freedom) program at his camp office (October 5, 2021).

The state government, according to officials, is implementing the program with the health and hygiene of women and adolescent girls in mind. Every month, ten sanitary napkins will be distributed to approximately 10 lakh adolescent girls in all government schools and intermediate colleges across the state as part of this initiative.

This initiative also aims to reduce girl students’ absenteeism during menstruation and to prioritise their hygiene and health. Officials will distribute napkins to girl students in over 10,000 schools and colleges across the state every two months.
