Sunil Gavaskar Trust to construct multi-facility sports complex

The Sunil Gavaskar Cricket Foundation Trust has been granted permission by the Maharashtra State government to convert a reserved plot for an indoor academy in the Bandra-Kurla complex into a full-fledged multi-facility sports complex.

In the back, Gavaskar’s trust had been given the 2,000-square-metre property in 1988 and had asked the State government twice in the last two years for approval to expand it into a multi-sports complex.

However, the government gave its go-ahead to the Sunil Gavaskar Foundation, and now the reserved plot in the Bandra-Kurla complex can be turned into a multi-facility sports complex.

According to the permit, a medical health facility and an auditorium should also be built in the training center.

The SGCFT has been granted the necessary permission, according to a Government Regulation (GR) issued by the State Government on September 15.

“Besides the decision on November 29, 2002, to grant permission for health club, fitness center, gymnasium, swimming pool, squash, residential complex, and sports cafeteria, based on the request by SGCFT in a letter dated January 27, 2021, permission is also granted for badminton, table tennis, and football facilities,”

The Government Regulation has asked Sunil Gavaskar Foundation to complete the formalities with the Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority in 30 days and to begin the construction process of the plot in one year and finish it in three years.

The GR confirms that, as per the previous agreement in 2007, 25% of the proceeds generated by the facility will be deposited to the State government.
